Aromatherapy candles and oils are popular natural sleep aids. The relaxing scents help many people de-stress, especially when it's difficult to switch off and relax at the end of a busy day.

So, which aromas work and which don't? Decide which aroma is 'heaven-scent' for you. Try placing a few drops onto an Aromatic Cotton Ball and place it on your bedside table.

For every great aroma, there are also scents to avoid at bedtime. Peppermint, lemon, and rosemary oils are all known for their energising properties. So steer clear of these unless you want to be 'counting sheep'!

Sandalwood in particular is a popular aroma when it comes to relaxation and stress relief.  Sandalwood may be one of the best natural sleep aids, the scent stimulates the part of the brain which produces melatonin. 

Combine aromatherapy with other natural sleep aids
Try a bath, surrounded by scented candles about an hour before bedtime. Candles infused with lavender, chamomile and sandalwood will promote peace and tranquillity for your mind and body, and prepare you for a great nights sleep ahead.
Oils can also be used in a warm bath before bed, can be gently sprayed on your pillow or used as incense through a burner or candle.

So next time you're lying in your bedroom, your mind is still racing and you're not sleeping, try aromatherapy. Whichever scent works for you, be sure it's one that will send you off to a deep and peaceful sleep.
