Frequently asked questions

Starting a Bedshed franchise is a big decision, and we’re here to help answer any questions you might have. Below you’ll find information on everything from financial requirements to training and support.

What is Bedshed looking for in a potential franchisee?

Ideally, we are looking for someone with a business background, someone who understands business financials and the importance of providing an unforgettable customer experience. We want someone with an infectious personality who will naturally inspire those around them, who will motivate and lead their sales team from the front.

We are realistic and we know a person who has all of those qualities is one in a million, but if you have just a couple of those qualities we’d be interested to hear your story. We are after hands-on, dedicated franchisees who will inspire their team to greatness, who will lead by example, who will show up, train and empower their staff.

Do I need a background in retail/bedding/furniture?

Experience in these fields is helpful but not essential. If you have an amazing people personality with a determined approach to listening and learning, together with a passion to succeed then we’d love to talk to you.  Bedshed offers extensive sales, product, systems and procedure training both before and after opening your store. Training is provided online, in and out of store.

Is training provided?

Bedshed’s training is based around the understanding that our new franchisees might not have any bedding or professional sales knowledge. Because of this, Bedshed offers extensive sales, product, systems and procedure training both before and after opening your store. Training is provided online, in and out of store.

What does it mean to be FRANdata Certified?

FRANdata, established over 30 years ago, is an independent organisation that evaluates franchise systems. It provides prospective franchisees, advisors, and financial institutions with fact-based insights to guide their decision-making.

Their standards assess 7 key areas of business function focusing on transparency and performance, developing extensive company profiles in accordance with industry insights, past performance, and future projections.

In 2022, Bedshed worked alongside the assessment teams at FRANdata to participate in interviews and data sharing. After a rigorous evaluation, Bedshed achieved the highest possible rating; 5 stars making our franchise system the only retailer in the bedding and home furnishing industries to receive such a high rating.

What is the financial investment needed to open a Bedshed store?

The initial investment to get into a Bedshed franchise varies depending on a number of factors, namely size and condition of the store you will be trading in. A good guide is approximately $1,200,000 for a turnkey business, stock and franchise fees. You are still required to seek professional advice on working capital.

Am I required to work in my Bedshed store?

Most definitely. We are not looking for investors. We want dedicated franchisees who will inspire their team to greatness, who will lead by example, who will show up, train and empower their staff.

Can I get a loan to fund the purchase of a Bedshed Franchise?

Through FranDATA Bedshed has gained the certification of being “finance ready”. This means Bedshed is seen by the banks as being low risk which means securing funding should be quicker and easier.

How long is the franchise agreement?

The initial Bedshed franchise agreement term is 10 years.

Can I sell my store in the future?

Yes, you can sell your business at any stage during your franchise agreement. When you find a purchaser, they still need to run through the franchise recruitment process and qualify as a Bedshed franchisee.

How do I find the perfect location?

It’s not a guessing game, it comes down to raw data. Bedshed use a 3rd party company called Deep End Services. They specialise in identifying ideal areas of trade based on the total networks’ performance key success indicators. With these insights we work with the Candidate to identify suitable locations, utilising our network of contacts and industry knowledge.

Do I need to be an Australian/New Zealand Citizen or hold an Australian Permanent Residency to be a franchise partner at Bedshed?

Yes, the government requires franchisees to be citizens or permanent residents in the country where the store is located.
